Join us for a great time at a one-day herding camp and study...

-how/why stock move away from dogs

-flanking commands and directional cues

-balance points and how they change

-flight zones and draws

Herding is PRESSURE GAME. The handler pressures (commands/pushes) the dog to move into a specific position that will cause stock to move in a specific direction. The handler must recognize when the dog responds correctly and move out of his way, allowing him to work. Roll-playing helps us understand how herding works and how it looks from the dog's point of view."

Speaking of staffs, we talk a lot about their purpose and how to effectively use one. Keeping in mind that we are working off "rules", while herding dogs are working off instinct helps us to understand how using the staff to block a dog's instinctive choice or direction can help him understand that although he knows more about herding stock, we know the rules.
